i can’t believe i’m watching this.

.

this is only TEMPORARY.

.

i take back what i said.

.

eliminate josef and nicole.

.

oh. the proper term is “evict.”

.

from an outsider’s point of view, it is, to a certain degree, interesting to see how this “nicosef” (as fans are calling them) team will pan out. but on the other hand, it is also distressing to realize that people as young as what… 15? 16? are capable of cheating. oh what fickle hearts these young have.

.

*sigh*

.

😦

.

//edit. josef aunt’s anna… what’s wrong with you woman?!

the curious incident of the dog in the night-time

novel by haddon

“There is tremendous insight about what goes on inside the head of a young man with Special Needs. That’s pretty much what kept me go ing. Most of the time, it was all about maths, and since I wasn’t a math person, this book bored me a bit.”

.

It was interesting, though, to read about John Christopher Boone’s thoughts. His mind worked logically and mathematically. He is completely removed from his emotions, which is why his understanding of other people is very limited and he only understands things literally.

.

Here’s an excerpt:

.

And I replied, “But I don’t feel sad about it. Because Mother is dead. And because Mr. Shears isn’t around anymore. So I would be feeling sad about something that isn’t real and doesn’t exist. And that would be stupid.” (In response to being asked about how he felt when he found out something bad that happened).

.

There was one math problem in the book called The Monty Hall Problem and it took me a while to get it, but I was immensely happy when I did. The equation part fizzled in my brain but the illustrated explanation cleared it up. Just goes to show I really am a visual person. Numbers are just really abstract for me.

.

I rated this 3 stars in Shelfari. The quote under the book cover picture above was my short review in that site.

philippine airlines (and lovely literature as retail therapy)

tsk.

.

i have just come from a “grueling” 2 hour wait at the PAL office just to learn that the guard issuing the numbers made a big mistake and directed me to the wrong counter, which forced me to line up again and… gah.

.

here’s the situation:

.

i bought a domestic PAL ticket online for my cousin.

.

on the day of his flight, he was not allowed to check in because i had not included a photocopy of my id with the photocopy of my credit card and his itinerary.

.

they made him buy another ticket.

.

they did not contact me about it even though my contact info was in the itinerary. i don’t think they’re obligated to, but if you’re trying to uphold the reputation of the country’s biggest airline company, it’s a small thing you can do, you know?

.

i’m stuck with an unused ticket so earlier i tried to get it refunded.

.

guard at the doorway gives me my number and directs me to counter8 after i tell him “refund.”

.

i sign my name and i wait 1 and a half hours.

.

guy at counter 8 tells me they’re for rebooking ONLY and directs me to counter 14, online ticketing.

.

i sign again and wait.

.

after a few minutes, i get impatient and ask if i should stay there and wait or just wait for my number (0117; they were serving 0103 already). they ask why. i tell them.

.

girl 01 says that if i refund through the office, i have to have documentation: my credit card, my id, passenger’s id, passenger’s consent whatever

.

and i’m like, “wtf?! i buy the ticket for my cousin, WHO’S ALREADY SOMEWHERE ELSE. HOW THE HELL AM I SUPPOSED TO GET HIS ID AND CONSENT?”

.

seriously man. PAL is so screwed up.

.

they tell me i could do it online.

.

again. WTF?!

.

there was nothing on the website to indicate a refunding feature.

.

they said i had to email.

.

i show her my itinerary, printed out from GMAIL, which apparently had included my email to them, sent TWICE.

.

she told me to call a number or leave the itinerary details with them and THEY will call up the department responsible for that one.

.

fuck it.

.

that meant THEY DON’T DO REFUNDING in that office?

.

but it’s an OFFICIAL PAL office.

.

screwed up, i tell ya, screwed up.
.

and they take too long to process people’s concerns. gawd.

.

this girl in counter 8, after maybe an hour with the PAL guy (who was looking quite annoyed already), said that in so and so airlines, they do this, they do that, to which the guy responds: “kasi naman po ma’am ibang airlines yun. alam mo naman po dito sa pilipinas, third world country tayo eh.”

.

the girl promptly replies with, “that is NOT an excuse.”

.

hell yeah! you go girl!

.

what the hell man. we’re a long way off, THAT’S A GIVEN, but that’s all the more reason for everybody to work hard to give top-notch quality service, not the mediocre and sort of “un”courteous one that service people give nowadays.

.

so now i have to wait till tomorrow to call up PAL.

.

in my anger and frustration, i proceeded to globe to cash in on gcash, then fully booked (i swear fully booked gateway has the BEST position in ANY mall) fully to just drown my sorrows in lovely literature.

.

at first i just browsed around.

.

then i remembered a recommendation.

.

didn’t find it on my first try.

.

found “Painless Grammar” on the bookshelf. it was between that one and the “reading comprehension” version. i know i need the reading comprehension more because teaching reading is what i really need to focus on, but i’m still primarily a language teacher, so i grabbed the painless grammar book and clutched it to my chest as i scoured the shelves for more books.

.

i decided to ask an employee. at first i asked for “the time traveller’s wife.” i hadn’t even finished saying the title when he already said it was out of stock in ALL branches. *gasp*

.

then i asked for “the curious incident of the dog in the night-time” by mark heddon and he found one for me.

.

then i asked if they carried books by eva ibbotson (thanks tim for the recommendation). he checked it in the computer, asked me for any specific title, and i said “a countess below stairs.” he left, and in under 5 minutes, he handed me a copy.

.

oh joy oh joy oh joy. 🙂

.

i went to the back of the bookstore, sat in front of the young adult shelf and just laid out the three books in front of me. did some budgeting calculations and said “screw that” in the end then paid for all three using my credit card.

.

i swear i need to stop using my credit card.

.

i hate credit card companies. bow.

Silly headband

summer headband

My most recent expensive purchase. At P425 a pop, Silly Me Clothing’s summer headbands seem to be expensive for a fabric headband, especially since we can get one for about a hundred in SM. I was reassured, though, that, the fabric was top-notch, and that the over-all quality would be worth it.

.

Well. I got my headband a few weeks after I ordered it only because I was in the province when it was delivered. Anyway, the fabric was thick cotton (I think) and there was a small garter band that would allow a snug fit. When I tried it on, it reminded me again of the pink patterned headband I bought from SM last year for way cheaper. That one had a good snug fit also and had light silky fabric that was wide. The problem I had with THAT one is that because of the snug fit, the hem would leave a mark on the top of my forehead
so I had to fold that back. The problem now with that one is that I couldn’t fold it back too far or else the headband would slip off my head. In the case of the Silly headband, I could fold the wide band in half and it still sits snugly on my head.

.

The garter was a bit too small, though, so it’s a bit harder for me to wear the headband (mostly because I have extremely thick hair). The tails (absent from my SM headband) on this Silly headband made it seem like you just tied that gorgeous fabric around your head.

.

I’m still not sure it’s worth the P475 (+50 for shipping) I paid for it, but so far I’ve been happy. I’ll take it on its first official test drive tomorrow when I’ll go out on errands the entire day.

.

Silly Me Clothing specializes in fabric belts, but they have other accessories as well. I’ll post a review on their belts some other time.

//edit. I LOOOOOOVE IT!!! =)

fritz again :)

[I Never Cry was] originally done by Alice Cooper in mid-70’s. My version used to be full-band with heavy guitar riffs and drums. It was later recorded and arranged acoustically and we invited Chin of MYMP to play the guitar part for me.

.

That’s the official word from the mouth of THE man of the hour, Fritz Fredrix.

.

Actually, it’s a text message in reply to my request for information.

.

Watch out for another clip of one of his songs here. I’ll upload it as soon as I get my hands on a faster internet connection. Dial-up just plain sucks, you know?

.

SUPPORT OPM! BUY THE ORIGINAL!

(On that note, somebody please give me an original cd of Kjwan. Pleaaaaaaaaase. I was watching the mtv of their song One Look when I remembered I still don’t have a copy of their CD. bleh. Loserific. Come oooooon. Pleaaaaaaase! ^_^)

In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale

A Dungeon Siege Tale\

I had an absolute HOOT watching this movie. 🙂

.

Imagine Lord of the Rings, Joan of Arc, The Matrix, a bunch of cheeseball movies and some ninjas (yes, ninjas) all rolled into one. Think Scary Movie without the comedy.

.

That’s exactly what it felt like while watching this movie. You could easily identify the influences that “inspired” this movie. From the evil magician/sorcerer (magus in the movie) that lived in a Mordor-like castle to the armor-clad Lee Lee Sobieski who reminded you of her old movie, Joan of Arc.

.

And it’s not just movies you “see” in this one but movie archetypes(? maybe not the right word. couldn’t think of the right one), “scenes” and characters painfully and hysterically evident that you can’t help but clutch your stomach from the pain of laughing non-stop. I mean, come oooon. Stealthy soldiers that moved, fought and even looked like ninjas? Deformed and inhuman creatures that lived for fighting and were controlled by said evil sorcerer (hello orcs)? Or how about the vengeful father who unsurprisingly fights extremely well even though he says that farming’s all he knows?

.

Another thing: I’ve never seen the movie before, but I could predict what was going to happen or what was going to be said next. PRE-DIC-TUH-BUHL. hahaha. In a funny way, though. My dad and I had a blast trying to outdo each other in the “this is what’s gonna happen/what he’s gonna say next” game.

.

This movie is a load of crap. Definitely not worth watching on the silver screen, but watch it in the comforts of your own home and laugh with your friends and family at how absolutely absurd this movie is.

.

p.s. I just realized that Lee Lee Sobieski CAN NOT act to save her life. She had one expression the entire time. Plus a monotonous voice. Too bad. I liked her in Joan of Arc.

p.p.s. crappy review for a crappy movie. lol.

more fritz fredrix

album cover

.

I’ve been getting hits here lately because of Fritz Fredrix, artist behind the latest cover of “I Never Cry,” which is currently making the rounds in local radio stations.

.

I figured I might help the populace out by providing some information, but truth be told, I don’t know much about the guy except that his birthday is in August and that he’s taken already by the lovely… I don’t think she’d appreciate it if I put her name here without permission.

.

What else do I know? hm.

philippine movie posters

i tried searching, and i came up with an outdated archive.

.

actually, i just checked out star cinema’s website, but, like i said, it was outdated. i was looking for the poster for Aga Muhlach and Anne Curtis’s new movie, but i guess i shouldn’t have been surprised at the lack of posters. i mean, the poster for My Big Love hasn’t even surfaced on the website. eh.

.

anyway, the reason i was looking for a poster is that i wanted to watch it when it opens. local cinema’s looking up. 😀

pbb: teen edition plus
